A major strength of Sykes is our UK based state-of-the-art manufacturing and processing facility. We are able to buy raw materials at the right time to the highest UK technical standards. Having such control means we are never out of stock.
Liverpool
Sefton, Liverpool, is a seafood processing facility specialising in picking and dispatching high-quality fish and seafood. Sykes is a driving force in the food manufacturing industry, setting the bar for industry standards with the highest BRC grade awarded (AA+).
Every week we process approximately 350 tonnes of top-quality seafood and input this into our Sykes branded packaging and customers’ own labels.
Our UK production operation is unrivalled in the UK, offering vertical supply chain integration to give us greater control over our costs, product quality and availability.

Sykes Seafood is moving to a new state-of-the-art facility which we expect to be fully operational in 2023. Based in Warrington, this facility will be built to our own custom needs and specifications needed to fulfil the demands across our entire group (Sykes Seafood, Ruskim Seafoods and Klaas Puul). The 167,000sqft building will serve as our new head office and offer cold storage and distribution solutions closer to our factory in Sefton, allowing a more efficient supply chain.

Manchester
Our cold store and distribution facility is located at Manchester’s famous New Smithfield Market. Sykes moved here in 1974 as one of the markets founding members.
With the company going from strength to strength since then, Manchester is now a hub of activity. Our operations here help us control the supply chain and hold stock to cover seasonal peaks and troughs. All our seafood is distributed from this location with a fully traceable supply chain.

In 2022 Sykes Seafood acquired another state-of-the-art production facility, this time in the South East of the UK. Opened in 1995, the 4,000m² multi-site production facility has an annual capacity of 7,500MT+, producing both frozen and chilled products for major retailers and foodservice operators.

Volendam
Klaas Puul’s Volendam facility is one of many strategic locations in place to ensure customers in Europe are supplied quickly and efficiently with the same great quality product in our UK foodservice brands. After prawns are brined and cooked in Edam, they come to Volendam to be packaged into trays or bags for retail and foodservice.
Klaas Puul’s managerial and key staff operate and oversee critical business activities from our head office in Volendam and work with our UK-based team to provide the best products and services for customers all over Europe

Edam
The Edam production location based in the Netherlands is where all North Sea prawns are processed for distribution across Europe. This location has a laboratory where samples are meticulously analysed and tested daily to ensure the highest food safety requirements are met as well as continuously trialling new processing techniques and working on NPD.
As well as processing prawns, Klaas Puul is continuously trialling new and innovative processing techniques and working on brand new product development to introduce new product ranges to our portfolio.

Morocco
Tangier, Morocco is Sykes Seafood’s hand-peeling prawn facility for our European customers. With a state-of-the-art design and complete control over the supply chain, this facility has sufficient capacity for peak season, meaning we are never out of stock. Located directly opposite this facility, we have a dedicated factory that specialises in repurposing the prawn shells to be utilised by the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
With plans to expand our operations in Morocco in place, this will allow us to produce even greater quantities of seafood for retail and wholesale customers of Klaas Puul.
