Sourcing and sustainability
The world is rapidly changing, and we know sourcing premium seafood across the globe comes with great responsibility. To safeguard the future of our oceans, we are committed to only sourcing from sustainable, well-managed, and responsible fishing areas and aquaculture regions with complete supply transparency. For over 160 years we have been in complete control of our supply chain, meaning you literally buy direct from the source. We are fully traceable from the moment our seafood is caught to when it’s packaged on its way to your doorstep. In essence, every step along the way we know exactly what’s happening and where our seafood has been across our entire supply chain.
We work closely with all of our global suppliers to ensure we source the finest and freshest seafood available. From catching out at sea to preparation, storage and delivery, we take great care in ensuring our processes are sustainable so that the environments from which we source can continue to provide great tasting, quality seafood for years to come.
Where We Source
Sykes is one of the biggest importers of seafood in the UK. Our massive operation spans across the globe from local British imports to North America and Asia. We have facilities in the UK, mainland Europe, and the UAE which allows our supply chain to operate with minimal risk.
Some of the locations we source our seafood from include:
Sustainability
As well as our extensive processes to ensure sustainability is our utmost priority, we work closely alongside MSC, ASC, and Global GAP to closely monitor our supplier processes. This helps us ensure we support the farmers and fishermen who share our attitudes toward protecting the natural world. Although we do not directly own or operate ‘Sykes’ fishing boats, we ensure to source directly from partner vessels and manage a supply chain that spans across the world with interactions right through from catch to customer. Not only do we work tirelessly to protect our natural wildlife. From catching out at sea to preparation, storage and delivery, we always do what we can to make sure all of our processes are sustainable.
Sustainable fishing means more than leaving enough fish in the ocean. It’s about monitoring the fish population, giving them time to breed, limiting bycatch, and looking after the environments we operate in. Catching our seafood in the most sustainable way possible is a driving force for us to protect habitat and threatened species and people who depend on fishing to maintain their livelihoods.
Our Suppliers
By using our well-oiled supplier network and various facilities we’re able to maintain a steady supply of core products to ensure we can always fulfil our customers’ requirements. Our buyers have worked within the industry for decades and encompass knowledge, experience and confidence in their decisions. We work with trusted suppliers who have become familiar with our high standards and expectations over the last century.
Sourcing from across the globe with relationships built in a variety of countries through a multitude of languages, our partners across the world ensure we source the finest and freshest raw material available to buy to UK Technical accreditation and standards.
All products undergo robust quality checking throughout the entire supply chain. The material doesn’t leave its point of origin without a thorough inspection. Detailed reports are produced ahead of arrival in the UK for our team to review, we then conduct another quality check on the material again before processing.
Our supplier network has sailed the seven seas many times over to find the most premium fish and seafood for our customers. This results in only the best seafood reaching the nation’s dinner tables.
